Description

These banana brownies are rich, fudgy, and the perfect way to use up overripe bananas. With a deep chocolate flavor and moist texture, they’re a delightful twist on traditional brownies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 very ripe bananas, mashed (about 1½ cups)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Optional: ½ cup chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or a swirl of peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour an 8×8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until mostly smooth.
  3. Add the melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas. Whisk until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Fold in any optional mix-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, or peanut butter swirls.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, substitute the butter with coconut oil. You can also experiment with different mix-ins like white chocolate chips or dried fruit for added flavor.
