  • Author: Amelia M.
  • Total Time: 6 hours 10 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

Tender meatballs simmered in a rich, savory mushroom and onion gravy, offering a comforting twist on the classic Salisbury steak, all effortlessly prepared in a slow cooker.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag frozen meatballs
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 2 tbsp ketchup or tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced

Instructions

  1. Place frozen meatballs and sliced mushrooms into the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, brown gravy mix, onion soup mix, ketchup or tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  3. Pour the sauce over the meatballs and mushrooms in the slow cooker, stirring gently to coat.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. In the last 30 minutes of cooking, mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry. Stir this into the slow cooker to thicken the gravy.
  6. Once the sauce has thickened, serve the meatballs over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For a creamier sauce, stir in 1/2 cup of sour cream just before serving. This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed green beans or a crisp side salad. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
