Description
Tender meatballs simmered in a rich, savory mushroom and onion gravy, offering a comforting twist on the classic Salisbury steak, all effortlessly prepared in a slow cooker.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 bag frozen meatballs
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet brown gravy mix
- 1 packet onion soup mix
- 2 tbsp ketchup or tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp cold water
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
Instructions
- Place frozen meatballs and sliced mushrooms into the slow cooker.
- In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, brown gravy mix, onion soup mix, ketchup or tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
- Pour the sauce over the meatballs and mushrooms in the slow cooker, stirring gently to coat.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours, stirring occasionally.
- In the last 30 minutes of cooking, mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry. Stir this into the slow cooker to thicken the gravy.
- Once the sauce has thickened, serve the meatballs over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
For a creamier sauce, stir in 1/2 cup of sour cream just before serving. This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed green beans or a crisp side salad. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
